Horny for Golden Popcorn

Mike Myers is vying to make us horny, once again, for the 2008 MTV Movie Awards. Following Sarah Silverman’s forgettable foul-mouthed performance at the 2007 awards, this should be an easy task.
“Hosting the MTV Movie Awards is like a party, but without having to do beer runs in your mom’s minivan,” Myers said in a statement to MTV. “We do beer runs in Will Smith’s four-story motor home.”
Myers is hosting the show, set to air live from Gibson Amphitheater on June 1, for the second time, following up his 1997 debut where he and Ben Stiller nearly fell in love in the opening “Jurassic Park” spoof. Myers’s hair-brained antics are sure to make for another crotch-raising good time.
Returning with Myers for his second go at the awards will be Mark Burnett as the show’s executive producer. Just in case you are from another planet, Burnett is the mastermind behind shows like “Survivor” and “The Apprentice.”
“I’m looking forward to incorporating the viewers more than ever before, because I consider the MTV Movie Awards to be the most relevant movie award show in America today,” Burnett said to MTV. “This show honors the movies that millions of young Americans go to see. We will again highlight the interactive culture that is young America.”
Myers will also be joined by an all-star cast of presenters including former host Jack Black, the infamous party animal Lindsey Lohan, and the now 45-year-old virgin Steve Carell.
A world away from the accompaniment of The Wondermints (the band from “Austin Powers”) and Bush’s 1997 “Cold Contagious” performance, this year’s musical line-up includes Coldplay and the ever-racy Pussycat Dolls, whose sophomore album is still months away from release.
But the most important issue is that of the nominees. Following last year’s on stage “Talladega Nights” lip-lock reenactment between Will Ferrell and Sacha Boran Cohen, the nominees for this year’s Best Kiss include: Amy Adams and Patrick Demsey in “Enchanted,” Briana Evigan and Robert Hoffman in “Step Up 2 the Streets,” Shia LeBeouf and Sarah Roemer in “Disturbia,” Ellen Page and Michael Cera in “Juno”, and Daniel Radcliffe and “Katie Leung in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.”
Battling it out for the nomination of Best Movie are a bunch of easily aroused guys versus some aliens and pirates, a pregnant high school chic, transforming machines and some spies. The nominees include: “I Am Legend,” “Juno,” “National Treasure: Book of Secrets,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” “Superbad,” and “Transformers.”
Other categories competing for the appetizing Golden Popcorn trophy are Best Comedic Performance, Best Female Performance, Best Fight, Best Male Performance, Best Summer Movie So Far, Best Villain, and Breakthrough Performance.
The nominees’ fate lies in the hands of the viewers. The voting ends on May 23 at movieawards.mtv.com.
